Kerry Henderson and his business partner, Beth Triffon, run Stage Left Creative in Los Angeles. They had made videos for Sabrina Carpenter, New Kids on the Block and Dancing with the Stars, alongside work in architecture, interior design and branded content.
They had a strong body of work and established client relationships. But as some of those clients changed, new projects weren’t coming in as often.
Hear it from Kerry.
His experience of coaching, in his own words.
02 · Why coaching
Good work wasn’t bringing in enough new clients.
Most of Stage Left’s work came through referrals. Kerry and Beth weren’t doing their own marketing outreach, and when work slowed they weren’t sure how to bring in new clients.
Their initial idea was to reach more clients in architecture, interior design and other industries where they already had experience. They came to coaching for help deciding where to focus and how to put that into practice.
They had found coaching useful in other areas of their lives and began looking for similar support with the company. After listening to my podcast and talking with me, they decided to work with me.
03 · Website and showreel
Looking at their work through a client’s eyes.
One of the first things we worked on was the website. Kerry and Beth completely redesigned it, with my input on making it more focused on clients and sales. We looked at how they presented their work from a potential client’s point of view.
We took the same approach to their showreel. I helped them focus the selection on the clients they wanted to attract and what those clients needed to see.
Kerry recognised that some of their earlier choices had been about what pleased them as artists. My feedback helped them rework the reel around the person watching and what they might need from Stage Left.
04 · Choosing a direction
Building on what Kerry did best.
We explored opportunities in architecture, interior design and brand content. As the coaching progressed, we recognised that Kerry’s success in music was something to build on. He already had the experience, relationships and body of work in that industry.
We decided to double down on the music work he was already good at, while making room for suitable opportunities in other areas. Coaching helped Kerry and Beth work through that decision and give their marketing a clearer focus.
“And I think he’s also been able to help us organize our thoughts as to what we would like to focus on.”

05 · Working together
Practical help when he felt stuck.
Our weekly Zoom sessions gave Kerry a place to work through the problems behind those decisions. He valued being able to discuss them with someone who also ran a production company and understood what he was dealing with.
When he felt stuck, we could talk through the problem and find a small step to get things moving. That helped him see a way forward and feel more motivated to act.
The support could adapt to what he needed. He could ask for more of a push to get things done between sessions, or more space to work through the finer details himself. Kerry valued the kindness in the coaching and being able to talk about the emotional side of running a business.
“He’s kind of an open book and you can bounce anything off of him.”

06 · What changed
Stronger marketing. A clearer direction.
Within our first few months of coaching, Kerry and Beth had completed their website redesign and new showreel. Both were more focused on the clients they wanted to attract.
They had also settled on a direction that built on Kerry’s success in music, with room for suitable work in other industries.
Beyond the marketing work, they were changing how they thought about the business. They had been focused on the next project and what needed doing each day. Through coaching, they began looking further ahead and making decisions about the company as a whole.
What the coaching meant to Kerry.
Kerry had wanted someone who could identify things he and Beth couldn’t see for themselves and help them decide what to focus on. He felt the coaching had delivered on that.
“I think our coaching with Ryan so far has been a great investment.”
